Acupuncture

Acupuncture literally means 'needle piercing," the practice of inserting very fine needles into the skin to stimulate specific anatomic points in the body (called acupoints or acupuncture points) for therapeutic purposes. Along with the usual method of puncturing the skin with the fine needles, the practitioners of acupuncture also use heat, pressure, friction, suction, or impulses of electromagnetic energy to stimulate the points. The acupoints (acupuncture points) are stimulated to balance the movement of energy (qi) in the body to restore health.

Acupuncture involves stimulating. In the past 40 years acupuncture has become a well-known, reasonably available treatment in developed and developing countries. Acupuncture is used to regulate or correct the flow of qi to restore health.

Cosmetic Acupuncture? (Kateri Hyung only)

Cosmetic Acupuncture is an effective non surgical treatment to reduce the signs of aging. It promotes the circulation of Qi and blood to the face, which in turns, moistens the skin and promotes collagen production for increased muscle tone and elasticity to erase fine lines and wrinkle and prevents new wrinkles from forming. This is wrinkle prevention from deep within. A 1996 study in The Journal of Clinical Acupuncture reports that 90% of cosmetic acupuncture clients have marked improvement in their faces and experienced an overall rejuvenation that is not confined to the face.

A minimum of 10 visits are recommended (bi-weekly visits), however many have seen results as early as the first three visits. Each visit is about 1 hour long and concludes with an herbal face mask. You can look and feel years younger during your lunch break!

Abdominal Treatment (Kateri Hyung only)

For most of us, the abdominal area is a hiding place for stored emotions buffered by fat. The love handles serve to cushion our fall or buffer the awareness of negative feelings and events. There are many sayings such as, "one cannot stomach a thought or situation" or "one has a gut feeling about something" or "one is sick to their stomach." The stomach truly is hiding place for emotions. On a physiological standpoint, the abdomen reacts to hormones and is essentially a "second brain" or otherwise called the enteric nervous system.

The Abdominal Treatment is designed to open the passages that have been used as storage and cushions to create awareness and space to clear away past holdings including physical and emotional traumas. In Chinese medical theory, there are acupuncture points on the abdomen which give evidence of excess or deficiency in the organ systems both on physical and emotional states of well being. Each organ or element corresponds and reacts to certain emotions. For example, the liver or wood element is anger, the heart or fire element is joy, the stomach or earth element is worry, the lung or metal element is grief, and the kidney or water element is fear. The abdominal treatments work to build Qi in the abdomen for better digestion and assimilation, and break the patterns of physical holdings in the abdomen. Patients' results have been: emotional release during the course of treatment, better muscle tone in the abdomen, and improved digestion.
